Turkey visa: who needs one and how to apply in 2026

Updated on 24 October 2026 · Solution Visa Turquie
At a glance
Visa requirements depend on nationality, travel document, age and purpose. Living in France does not give every passport the same treatment as a French passport.
- French passport holders are exempt for qualifying tourist stays within the 90-day allowance over 180 days.
- Other nationalities may also be exempt, including Moroccan and Tunisian passports for qualifying short visits. Others need an e-Visa or a consular visa.
- Work, study, internships and longer stays require assessment of the relevant procedure.
- Use the passport checker before paying. No visa or admission is guaranteed.
Travelling from France: nationality still matters
Your departure country and passport nationality are different. French residents with other passports must follow the rules for those passports. A French residence permit may satisfy a supporting-document requirement for some conditional e-Visa routes, but does not make every nationality eligible.
The Paris consulate’s note explains the documents accepted for French nationals and the specific validity exceptions. Do not apply expired-document exceptions to children or to other nationalities. Check the official note before departure.
Previous visits count towards the applicable allowance. Leaving Turkey for a neighbouring country does not automatically reset it. For repeated travel, have the exact dates checked.
Who needs a visa?
There are three routes: exemption, e-Visa and consular application. Where an e-Visa is available, the official portal may require a qualifying supporting document, a particular age range or specific transport arrangements.

Algerian ordinary passports illustrate the age rules: tourist exemption below 15 and above 50; conditional e-Visas for certain ages within the 15–18 and 35–50 ranges. Exact boundary ages need date-of-birth verification. The 18–35 range must not be advertised as automatically eligible.
Refugee or stateless travel documents and special passports require separate assessment. Read the passport reference and the Algerian passport page.
e-Visa or consular visa?
The e-Visa is an online route for eligible tourism or commerce cases. Other applications go through the relevant Turkish mission. Visa validity, allowed stay and permitted entries are separate limits. An exit may use up a single entry; multiple entries must not be assumed.
For online procedure details, read the e-Visa application guide.
Fees and service prices
The Paris consulate’s note dated 13 May 2026 lists €60 for a single-entry visa, €90 for EU passports and €170 for multiple entries; its transit section lists €120 for two entries. Cash payment is specified there. These are consular application categories, not a charge owed by visa-exempt visitors.
The official e-Visa amount must be checked after selecting the passport and trip. Our assistance costs €99 per eligible traveller for the indicative 5-day service, or €149 for urgent 24-hour service (+€50). Our service price is not a uniform official visa fee.
Consular steps, documents and timing
Check the mission responsible for your residence and the required category, then use the official consular portal. The Paris note recommends applying early and gives a typical 10-day to 3-week processing period for several categories, without guaranteeing each case.
Consular requirements differ from e-Visa assistance. Depending on category, they may include identity and residence documents, a biometric photograph, travel and accommodation evidence, resources and activity records. The Paris note also specifies €30,000 travel insurance with the stated cover. Do not impose this entire consular list automatically on every e-Visa application.
Prefer cancellable bookings until a decision. After issuance, check identity, dates, entries and permitted stay.
Children and transit
Check each child’s own document and entry requirements. An exempt child does not need an e-Visa merely because the family is travelling. Also check parental authorisations and carrier requirements.
Remaining in international transit differs from entering Turkey. Collecting baggage or changing airports may require immigration clearance. IST and SAW are separate airports; an itinerary between them requires a transfer and an entry assessment. Nationality- and route-specific transit rules also need checking with the authorities and airline.
Longer stays or refusal
A new e-Visa does not automatically extend a stay. Contact the relevant Turkish administration before your permission expires if you need to remain longer. Overstaying can have financial and administrative consequences.
Following a refusal or an error, establish the actual application status and contact the competent mission before applying again. No automatic refund or successful result is promised. Appeal options require assessment of the individual decision.
